Renovations & Additions
Addition of a Sun Room
This new 450 square foot addition captures expansive salt marsh views and completes the existing house. The room has become the family space used for all occasions, large and small. French doors create an uninterrupted flow to the outdoors and within the house itself. For use throughout the year, this multi-purpose family space has radiant floor heat. Historic Cottage Renovations
In a rare instance, this 1926 beach cottage had never been modernized. Many of the original features remained but were in need of brightening up. As in many cottages of the era, the rooms were dark and amenities lacking. The goal was to add space to the upper floors and rear of the house and to update the structure but not lose its original charm. Victorian Addition
The two story addition and renovations to a shoreline Victorian include a new light filled family room with a master bedroom suite above. Details and forms were inspired by the original historic home. A raised garden replaces a wooden deck while expanded gardens and a new greenhouse complete the design. Gardens by Catherine Philips
1840 Captain’s House Renovation, Stonington, CT
The original Greek Revival shipmaster’s home is the inspiration for the transformation of a mid 1960’s addition into an open, light-filled family room and kitchen with a walk-in pantry. Details, such as fluted ionic columns and elaborate moldings, were selectively used throughout the renovation.
Massachusetts Farm House
The original 1730’s house was reunited with the surrounding fields and stone walls in this renovation and addition. The colonial era post and beam house was restored and an addition built to accommodate a new kitchen, ground floor master suite, mud room and new garage. The second floor adds new bedrooms, a small sitting area and attic storage. Modern amenities do not compete with the integrity of the original home in scale or detail. Estate Renovation
This 1907 historic stucco estate is rich in detail and character. As if they had always been there, interior kitchen renovations, a rear mud room and new garage were designed to completely blend with the original house in materials, scale and details. Formal rear gardens and a pool were integrated into the overall patterns of family life. Beach House Remodel
Extremely restrictive zoning regulations were respected at this narrow and deep waterfront property. A two car garage, two bedrooms, back stair, new porch and support spaces make up the addition while the rest of the house was renovated to include a new kitchen and master suite. Every room, even the garage, has views of Long Island Sound.Landscape by Towers-Golde Landscape Architects, New Haven, CT
Brick Ranch Rennovation
The original 1950’s brick ranch house overlooking the Connecticut River was the inspiration for the renovations, additions and gardens. The house was reconfigured to include a ground floor master suite, along with open, family friendly spaces throughout. On the second floor, where the additions took place, are additional bedrooms, a common space and an outdoor deck. The house was completely upgraded and includes a geothermal/geoexchange heating and cooling system. Gardens by MJ McCabe Garden Design, Northford, CT
Rustic Cabin to a Shingle Style House
Working within zoning and wetlands restrictions, a small cabin was expanded into a year round home with gracious family spaces. In-home offices were located in the third floor, ample second floor bedrooms were added and an in-law suite built above a two car garage. A geothermal/geoexchange heating and cooling system is part of the overall energy conservation strategy.
Kitchen and Master Suite Addition
Extremely restrictive building regulations were respected at this narrow waterfront property. A garage, kitchen, master suite, back deck and support spaces make up this small addition.
